Six Traits Writing

District #34 staff members have been working towards becoming more proficient with the Six Traits Writing Model. The majority of teachers in grades K-8 have now been trained in 6 Traits, with several of the teachers attending advanced training workshops. During the 6 Traits workshops teachers reviewed the traits of writing (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation) and actively participated in a series of mini lessons for teaching trait-based writing skills.  Children’s literature was used to introduce the writing skills and to inspire students to write clearly and with purpose.  Many teachers in grades 2-8 attended workshops at the Lake County Educational Service Center on October 8, with a number of teachers opting to participate in the advanced training on January 21, 2005. Hillcrest Kindergarten and First Grade teachers worked with Mindy Pudlo, a Reading First Coordinator on staff at the ESC, on December 2 to help with the district’s early learners
